The Chatty Café scheme originated in the UK and has since spread to Australia and the USA.
Now, GrandFriends has bought the initiative to New Zealand.
Designed to tackle loneliness and isolation, the scheme provides tables in cafés and community venues across the country where people can come together and chat.
Held in cafés, coffee shops and community venues, the scheme runs in two ways.
Whether you are a mum, dad or grandparent with a child, a solo teen or older person, out with your carer or support person, or simply in the mood for a chat, this is your chance to connect.
Become a Chatty Café Scheme venue and help to reduce loneliness and isolation in your area. Plus your venue will be known as a supporter of the community.
If you feel lonely and would like to connect with others, find a Chatty Café Scheme venue in your area and pop along for a chat. You’ll find a range of cafés and community venues
Be a part of the Chatty Café Scheme by becoming a volunteer host at your local café or community venue and helping to break the ice. Training materials are provided.
