What is being a Chatty volunteer all about?
By being a Chatty volunteer, you’ll be helping people in your local community become more connected and helping to reduce loneliness. It can be a rewarding experience, for just a small amount of your time.
You’ll also get the chance to meet new people yourself, all while enjoying a relaxing drink.
Most Chatty volunteers will be hosting tables at their local Chatty venue. That might be at a cafe, coffee shop or restaurant, or at a local community venue such as a library or community hub.
A volunteer will help to…
- Publicise the Chatty Cafe scheme in their local area
- Set up a Chatty table at the venue on the relevant day
- Welcome people to the table
- Start conversations by asking thoughtful questions and breaking the ice
- Monitor conversations and participants to ensure everyone is acting in a reasonable manner
- Deal with any minor disputes
Volunteers are supported
All volunteers receive training before they start hosting Chatty Café sessions.
You’ll receive
- Video training
- Resources to help with promotion
- Resources to help you moderate a Chatty table
- Resources to direct people to if they need more help
