Venue FAQs

If your question is not answered here just contact us and we’ll be more than happy to provide some personal help.

People using Chatty Tables might be might be on their own, in a couple, with a friend, carers, someone with a disability, a mum with a new baby or young children, a student or young person or a grandparent. Chatty Café tables are open to people of all ages and from all demographics. Everyone is welcome!

Chatting is such a simple concept but so important for mental and physical health. Loneliness can seriously impact a person’s sense of wellbeing and contribute to issues including anxiety and depression.

It’s easy to become a Chatty Café host venue. You just need to register and pay a small fee which helps us administer the scheme. You can choose to have a designated day and time with a volunteer to help you, or leave it up to customers to choose if they want to chat at any time.

We encourage you to promote your Chatty Table with your existing customers. We’ll also provide you with promotional materials.

You could also post about your Chatty Table on your social media channels, to raise awareness of the day(s) and time(s) your Chatty Table is available.

Venues are also listed on our website and advertised on our social media channels.

There are two options.

You can allow customers to set up their own table at your venue at any time. This option is $129+GST.

You can opt to have a set day and time for your table and use one of our Chatty volunteers. This option is $199+GST.

This is an annual subscription and payment will auto-renew unless you cancel prior to the renewal date.

If you run a community venue, get in touch as you may be eligible for a discount.

If you would like to cancel your subscription please email: connect@chattycafe.co.nz
Although the Chatty Café Scheme is part of GrandFriends NZ, which is a charity, the annual subscription fee to be a Chatty Café venue is not a donation, So unfortunately you cannot claim it back in your tax return.

If you make any donation separate from the fee of $5 or more, you will be able to claim this back in your income tax return.
